Participants will learn about the importance of inspection and testing of water-based fire protection systems.
SafeResponse has developed this Awareness Level training program on Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems for security personnel and fire protection specialists. This includes any personnel who are responsible for inspecting and testing these systems for their employer.
Employees of Ford Motor Company, Manufacturing Safety Office need to attend a hands-on training within 60 days of completing this on-line program. You cannot attend the hands-on training until you have successfully completed this on-line training program.
Certificates of completion can be printed by the participant once a 70% or greater score is achieved. The participant may take the quiz as many times as necessary in order to reach the 70% mark. A representative from your agency will need to certify your participation by signing the certificate. In addition, each participant must complete the training on an individual basis. If you ask someone else to go through the program for you, you will not learn the information that will be necessary to protect your health and safety. This will render your certificate null and void.
In order to become fully certified, you will also need to complete a hands-on training program. For more information, see the following section on Legal Requirements.
The Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires the inspection and testing of automatic sprinkler systems. OSHA also requires training for employees who are responsible for the inspection and testing of these systems. In addition, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has adopted a standard that also requires extensive training for personnel who are responsible for the inspection and testing of water-based fire protection systems. Failure to comply with NFPA standards may create liability for your employer.
This awareness Level training program is designed to meet only part of OSHA and NFPA training requirements. In order to inspect and test water-based fire protection systems, you will also need to attend a hands-on training program. In this Awareness Level program, you will gain knowledge that is necessary to inspect and test these systems. In the hands-on portion of the program, you will also learn the skills that are required to conduct proper inspections and tests.
