Introductory Information:

Participants will learn how to respond at the Awareness Level for incidents involving personnel who have become trapped, entangled or pinned in various types of machinery.

Opening Remarks:

SafeResponse has developed this Awareness Level training program on Machinery Rescue for emergency first responders. This includes public and private sector response personnel who may be the first on the scene of a machinery rescue.

Certification

Certificates of completion may be printed by the participant once a score of 70% or greater is achieved. The participant may take the quiz as many times as necessary in order to reach the 70% score. A representative from your agency will need to certify your participation by signing the certificate.

In addition, each participant must complete the training on an individual basis. If you ask someone else to go through the program for you, you will not learn the information you will need to ensure the health and safety of Emergency Response Team members. This will render your certificate null and void.

Legal Requirements:

This training program is designed to provide you with the knowledge required to respond to a Machinery Rescue at the Awareness Level, as described by National Fire Protection Association Standard 1670, Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents (2009 Edition). At this level of training, you will be taking initial actions that will help to stabilize the incident until rescuers trained to a higher level of response arrive on scene.

In order to perform rescues from machines at the Operations Level, additional training will be required. This additional training shouldaddress rescues from machines found in many industrial facilities, such as conveyors, lift tables, gear drives, printing presses, and food processing equipment.

Getting the Most out of the Program:

1. Before staring the program, click on each section tab at the top of the introduction page. This will tell you how the course is organized.
2. This course should take approximately 1 hour to complete. Use this number if you are required to track time spent during training.
3. At the end of the course, you will have to complete a check for understanding. In order to receive a certificate, you will have to receive a minimum score of 70%. Participants may print their certificates once they achieve 70% or greater. The participant may take the quiz as many times as necessary in order to achieve the 70% score.
4. Passing the check for understanding will confirm that you have met NFPA training requirements for Machinery Rescue at the Awareness Level.
5. Finally, on-line learning is based on content and learner responsibility. As a learner, you have even more responsibility when taking this program. If you skip a section or fail to review all the material, it could result in an injury to you or a member of the Emergency Response Team. For this reason, we urge you to get as much out of this course as you can.
